Adding Link Targets

Learn how to add and configure link targets for intelligent internal linking

Link targets are the pages you want to link to from your generated content. This guide shows you how to add and configure them for maximum SEO benefit.

What Are Link Targets?

Link targets are important pages on your site that you want to boost with internal links. Typically these include:

  • Pillar pages: Comprehensive guides on main topics
  • Product pages: Pages you want to drive traffic/conversions to
  • High-value content: Articles that rank well and deserve more authority
  • Service pages: Commercial pages you want to rank better
  • Category pages: Hub pages that organize related content

Adding Link Targets

1

Navigate to Link Targets

From the dashboard, click Internal Linking in the sidebar, then click Link Targets.

2

Click Add New Target

Click the Add Link Target button to open the configuration form.

3

Enter Target URL

Provide the full URL of the page you want to link to.

Example Target URL
https://yourdomain.com/ultimate-guide-to-project-management
URL Requirements
  • Must be a full URL (including https://)
  • Should be on the same domain as your content
  • Must be a published page (not a draft)
  • Can include anchor links (e.g., #section-name)
4

Add Anchor Text Suggestions

Provide 3-5 different anchor text phrases that could be used to link to this page. The AI will select the most contextually appropriate one.

Example anchor texts for a project management guide:

  • • "project management best practices"
  • • "how to manage projects effectively"
  • • "comprehensive project management guide"
  • • "tools and strategies for project managers"
  • • "learn more about project management"

Anchor Text Best Practices:

  • Use natural, descriptive phrases (not just keywords)
  • Vary the length and structure (some short, some long)
  • Include branded terms occasionally
  • Avoid exact match keywords for every variation
  • Make them contextually relevant to the target page
5

Add Topic Keywords

Enter keywords and topics that this page covers. This helps the semantic analysis find contextually relevant places to insert links.

Example keywords for a project management guide:

project management, agile, scrum, kanban, team collaboration, task tracking, project planning, remote teams, productivity, project tools

Keyword Tips
  • Include primary topic keywords
  • Add related concepts and subtopics
  • Use both broad and specific terms
  • Include synonyms and variations
  • Think about user search intent
6

Configure Link Settings

Set optional advanced settings:

Link Priority

Set to High for must-link pages (pillar content), Normal for regular pages, or Low for optional links.

Nofollow

Enable if you want to add rel="nofollow" to links (e.g., for affiliate links or user-generated content pages).

Max Links Per Article

Limit how often this target can appear in a single article (default: 1-2 times).

7

Save and Test

Click Save Link Target. The target will now be available for the semantic linking engine to use in new articles.

To test, generate a new article on a related topic and check if the link was inserted naturally.

Managing Link Targets

Edit Targets

Update anchor text, keywords, or settings at any time. Changes apply to newly generated articles (existing articles aren't retroactively updated).

Disable Targets

Temporarily disable a target instead of deleting it. Disabled targets won't be used in new articles, but you can re-enable them later.

View Link Matrix

See which articles link to which targets in a visual matrix. Identify orphan pages and over-linked targets.

Best Practices

Link Target Strategy
  1. Start with 5-10 high-priority targets - Your most important pages first
  2. Use diverse anchor text - Avoid repetitive exact-match phrases
  3. Update regularly - Add new high-performing pages as targets
  4. Monitor link distribution - Ensure links are spread naturally
  5. Remove low-performing targets - Prune pages that no longer need links
